In 2004, a European Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (2004/24/EC) was introduced. This new THMRS requires quality and safety of the product to be demonstrated, with efficacy being based on the traditional use of the herbal medicine, provided the claimed pharmacological effects are plausible. Milk Thistle is a traditional herbal medicinal product used to relieve the symptoms associated with occasional over indulgence of food and drink, such as indigestion and upset stomach, based on traditional use only. Each Natures Aid® DigestEeze® tablet contains 137.5mg – 165mg of standardised dry extract from Milk Thistle fruits (Silybum marianum (L) Gaertner) equivalent to 2750-6600mg of Milk Thistle fruit. Milk Thistle is also known as holy thistle, lady’s thistle and St. Mary thistle, and has been used in various preparations for over 2000 years dating back to the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
