Calcium phosphate is the mineral the body holds in greater quantity than almost any other, so it's little surprise that Dr Schuessler placed it near the very start of his series. Schuessler No 2 Calc Phos offers this foundational salt in a small 6X tablet that you can chew or dissolve in water, making it one of the most popular single tissue salts in the whole range.
In the tissue salt tradition, Calc Phos has long been thought of as a nourishing, building salt - the one people reach for during busy periods of growth, change or recovery. It's a frequent companion for growing children, active adults and older family members alike, and it's often taken alongside other salts as part of a wider routine.
Calc Phos is the shorthand name for calcium phosphate, a naturally occurring mineral compound made up of calcium and phosphorus. These two elements are found throughout the body, most notably in the skeleton and teeth, which is why calcium phosphate is so often described as a structural mineral. In this tablet it appears at a 6X potency, prepared in the traditional Schuessler way by repeatedly triturating the mineral with lactose.
Because it's a single salt rather than a blend, Calc Phos is ideal if you prefer to build your own tissue salt routine, or if a practitioner has recommended this specific salt for you. It also features in several of the Schuessler combinations, including Combination 5, Combination 12, Combination E, Combination N and Combination R.
Tissue salts trace back to Dr Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler, a German physician working in Oldenburg in the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1873 he published his short work describing twelve mineral salts he regarded as essential building blocks of the body's tissues. Rather than using these minerals in large amounts, he prepared them in tiny, finely triturated quantities so they could be taken easily by people of every age. More than 150 years later, his twelve salts and the combinations built from them remain a familiar sight on the shelves of independent health food shops.
This tablet comes from the Schuessler range by Martin & Pleasance, a long-established Australian company that has specialised in tissue salts and natural remedies for generations. Every tablet is prepared at a 6X potency - a one in a million dilution of the mineral - and pressed into a small tablet that can be chewed or crushed and stirred into water. The single salts are numbered alphabetically from 1 to 12, and the combinations are lettered or numbered separately so you can find your way around the range easily.
Whether you're new to tissue salts or have used them for years, No 2 Calc Phos is a dependable foundation salt to keep at home.
