Inside Combination M

Every 6X tablet contains equal parts Calc Phos (calcium phosphate), Kali Mur (potassium chloride), Nat Phos (sodium phosphate) and Nat Sulph (sodium sulphate). Within the tissue salt tradition, Nat Phos is linked with the body's acid-alkaline balance, Nat Sulph with the elimination of excess fluid, Kali Mur with the later stages of discomfort and Calc Phos with bones and structure.

The combination of two sodium salts with Calc Phos and Kali Mur is what gives Combination M its traditional focus on joints, fluid balance and freedom of movement.

Where Tissue Salts Began

The tissue salt system was first set out in the 1870s by Dr Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler, a physician working in northern Germany. He believed that twelve mineral salts formed the basic building blocks of the body's cells and that keeping them in balance was central to everyday wellbeing. Rather than giving large mineral doses, he triturated each salt with milk sugar to create a very gentle preparation. Generations of families have since kept a few of his salts in the cupboard, and the original twelve are still made to the same principles today.

The Schuessler range is made by Martin & Pleasance, an Australian natural health company with roots in the nineteenth century and one of the best known tissue salt specialists in the world. Each salt is prepared at a 6X potency, meaning it has been diluted one part in ten, six times over, and the tablets are small enough to chew quickly or crush into a little water. The twelve single salts are numbered alphabetically from No 1 Calc Fluor to No 12 Silica, which is worth noting, as some other brands use a different numbering order.

Building Your Routine

The traditional approach is little and often. Many people take Combination M four times a day as a maintenance routine, ideally half an hour before meals with the last dose at bedtime, and increase the frequency for short periods when they feel they need it. Keeping your doses away from strong mint, coffee and food is thought to help, and consistency over several weeks tends to matter more than any single dose.
