For many people, the arrival of spring and summer brings mixed feelings. Longer days and blossoming gardens are a joy, but high pollen days can leave the nose and eyes feeling far from comfortable. Schuessler Combination H is the blend Martin & Pleasance traditionally recommends for seasonal sensitivities, and it's one of the most asked-for combinations in health food shops as the weather warms up.
Many regular users start taking Combination H a few weeks before their usual season begins and continue through the warmer months.
Each 6X tablet contains equal parts Mag Phos (magnesium phosphate), Nat Mur (sodium chloride) and Silica (silicea). Within Dr Schuessler's system, Nat Mur is closely associated with the moisture balance of the mucous membranes, Mag Phos is linked with the nerves and muscles, and Silica is considered the conditioning salt of the twelve.
It's a short, focused formula that's simple to fit into the day, and because the tablets are so small and mild they suit both adults and, at a reduced dose, older children who feel the effects of the season.
The tissue salt system was first set out in the 1870s by Dr Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler, a physician working in northern Germany. He believed that twelve mineral salts formed the basic building blocks of the body's cells and that keeping them in balance was central to everyday wellbeing. Rather than giving large mineral doses, he triturated each salt with milk sugar to create a very gentle preparation. Generations of families have since kept a few of his salts in the cupboard, and the original twelve are still made to the same principles today.
Few names are as closely tied to tissue salts as Martin & Pleasance. The Australian company has specialised in Schuessler salts for generations, and it still follows the traditional method of triturating each mineral with lactose to a 6X potency. The result is a small, gentle tablet with a mild, slightly sweet taste that most people find easy to take, children included. The range is clearly organised too, with single salts numbered 1 to 12 and combinations identified by letter or number, so it's simple to build a routine around the salts you use most.
Some customers keep Combination H for the times they feel they need it most, taking doses more frequently for a short spell, while others prefer a steady four-times-daily routine over several weeks. Either way, it's best taken half an hour before food, away from strong flavours like mint and coffee. Many people also find it helpful to pair it with other Schuessler salts, as recommended by their practitioner.
If you'd like to enjoy the outdoors a little more when pollen counts climb, Combination H is a classic seasonal tissue salt to keep handy.
