This makes it important to ingest nutrients such as glucosamine sulphate, chondroitin sulphate, collagen hydrolysate, hyaluronic acid and acetylcysteine which are found in the cartilage, together with omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid).

The benefits of vitamin C and vitamin E, and also the trace elements zinc, selenium, copper and manganese are also important for joint structures. Calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K are particularly important for maintaining the skeletal structure of people with osteoarthritis.
